About Civil Engineering

The department offering B.Tech – Civil Engineering with 120 intake and M.Tech. – Structural Engineering with 30 intake.

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2013 with a goal to be the centre of excellence for the fostering and dissemination of knowledge in Construction, Structural, Water Resources and Management, Transportation, Environmental, Geotechnical, Remote Sensing & GIS and to render its applications to the benefit of  the society.  The Department has developed strong links with construction industry and professional bodies. Outcome Based Education and practical learning system for the students.

The Graduates of the programme will be able to:

  • Design and contribute to the development of Civil infrastructure project and grow as a successful engineer.
  • Update their professional skills with focus on research and industry interaction.
  • Work in multicultural and multidisciplinary groups in accordance with technological transform for the escalation of Civil Engineering projects.
  • Professionally competent in their chosen career with ethical and societal responsibility.

The following program outcomes are expected to be found in the graduate students on their completion of the 4-year program.

  • PO-1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO-2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO-3: Design / Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO-4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO-5: Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO-6: The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • PO-7: Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • PO-8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • PO-9: Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • PO-10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with the society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • PO-11: Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

  • Understand, analyze and design the solutions for problems in the field of civil engineering.

  • Proficient in planning, analysis, design and execution of diverse projects with due consideration to issues concerning society and environment.
  • Adopt new innovative technology by continuously updating their knowledge through lifelong learning.
  • Analyze socio-industrial problems and present feasible solutions through critical thinking and research.
  • Continue professional development in this field or in related inter disciplinary fields with a background in structural engineering.

The Graduates of the programme will be able to :

  • An ability to independently carry out research/investigation and development work to solve practical problems.
  • An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.
  • An ability to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program.
  • Design, integrate and administrate new structural problems using emerging technologies.
  • Understand about group dynamics, recognize opportunities and contribute positively to collaborative research in multidisciplinary aspects.

The Graduates of the programme will be able to:

  • Expose advanced courses in Analysis and Design of structures as per the latest design codes, current national and international scenario on Structural Engineering.
  • Integrate and administrate solution for new structural problems using modern technology and literature.
  • Address the societal needs by interdisciplinary approach through advanced and allied courses.
